Optus shakes off its woes to record the fastest 5G speeds and the most consistent network

Despite its difficulties in recent times Optus has topped the charts in Opensignal’s latest Mobile Network Experience Report with the fastest 5G download speeds, consistency and best gaming experience.

Optus has come through a data breach in September 2022 and the worst telecommunications outage in Australian history in November 2023 that resulted in the resignation of CEO Kelly Bayer Rosmarin.

But despite this adversity and the fact the company has still not nominated a new CEO, Optus has been recognised as having the best 5G download speeds on average between January 1, 2024, and March 30, 2024.

It is the sixth time in a row Opensignal has recognised Optus with this honour.

Optus won with a speed of 208.7Mbps on average which is well ahead of Telstra and Vodafone who came in second and third place respectively.

Optus also won the Opensignal Consistent Quality Award outright and pulls ahead of Vodafone by two per cent after it had tied statistically in the previous quarter.

For 5G Upload Speeds Vodafone took the top spot overtaking Telstra which had held the award for five previous reports.

Optus was also awarded the Best 5G Games Experience which it had previously shared with Vodafone.

This means users have the best multiplayer experience on the Optus network with a score of 82.1 on a 100 point scale.

Telstra has retained its Coverage Experience award comfortably over Optus and Vodafone scoring 9.5 points for overall Coverage Experience and 6.2 points for 5G Coverage Experience on a 10-point scale.
