Netgear’s new products help maximise your network

Netgear kicked off the Consumer Electronics Show with a range of new products designed to make better use of your home network.

So many entertainment products rely on an internet connection to access content and services and Netgear’s devices can help fill the gaps.

The new products include a dual band wi-fi range extender, powerline adaptors, a video and gaming wi-fi adaptor and a media storage router.

It’s not unusual for families to have up to six or seven devices in their home network with more than half of the connections used for entertainment purposes like streaming movies and content and online gaming.

With this in mind Netgear set about to design these new products to be easy to install and use and get the most out their network’s speed and range.

The Universal Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender WN2500RP can maximise the wireless coverage in your home to fill any dead spots that may exist within your network.

The device works off both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz wi-fi signals from an existing router to double the bandwidth.

Also on board are four wired connection which can be used to connect a smart TV, gaming console or Blu-ray player.

Getting to your internet connection from other parts of the home can be achieved either wirelessly or by through your homes powerline.

Netgear new products cover both with the N900 Video and Gaming 4-Port Wi-Fi Adaptor and the Powerline 500 Nano.

The N900 Video and Gaming 4-Port Wi-Fi Adaptor WNCE4004 can place up to four entertainment products wirelessly on your network and allow video to be streamed simultaneously to these devices in full high definition quality.

The Powerline 500 Nano connects at one end near your modem/router and sends that wireless connection down your powerline to the other half of the Netgear device which is situated near the product you’d like to connect.

The advantages of this device are speed – it can achieve up to 500Mbps – and the fact that every room usually has a powerpoint so it will work across your home.

Netgear’s new flagship product – the WNDR4700 – is a media storage router that combines wired and wireless connectivity with storage.

This means the device can provide a valuable backup system for the computers on the network whether they are Macs or PCs.

The Netgear WNDR4700 media storage router also supports Apple’s Time Machine back-up system.

The device is also DLNA certified so it possible to share content with other devices on the same network.

And it’s also possible to access content from outside your home network remotely using an internet connection using a feature called ReadyShare Cloud.
