Casio’s new keyboard can play lyrics as well as notes with vocal synthesis technology
Casio has unveiled new voice synthesis technology that looks set to redefine who we play keyboards with the launch of the Casiotone CT-S1000V which can not only play notes – it can also play lyrics.
The CT-S1000V goes into totally new territory by making it possible to create lyrics using a phone or tablet and then play them musically using the CT-S1000V’s keys.
Creators can speak or type their lyrics into the free Lyric Creator app for Android and iOS and then export them to the keyboard.
In Note mode you can then play a word or a syllable with each key while the CT-S1000V can play the lyrics polyphonically so you can produce solo melodic lines through to lush harmonies.
You can even extend the vocalist’s pitch range for some stunning results.
“The CT-S1000V is a new kind of electronic musical instrument which uses Casio’s unique Vocal Synthesis sound source technology enabling you to take lyrics from your smart device and—using one of the range of built-in vocal tones—lets you play the vocal line using the keyboard,” said Malcolm Pogue, National Sales & Marketing Manager for Casio Music Australia.
“The CT-S1000V is not a conventional synthesizer or keyboard, nor is it a simple production device; instead, it opens up possibilities for unprecedented freedom and creativity in vocal performances.
“The instrument allows you to change the voice tone, add and tweak effects in real time while playing, allowing you to bring vocals to your performance as intuitively as if you were humming them.
“Professional and aspiring songwriters can hear their own lyrics sung as they play the melody on the keyboard, and it is not limited to a specific melody for your vocal as you’re free to get inspired as you experiment with different musical ideas.
“It’s more than just another sound source as the musical possibilities are endless and will capture the interests of musicians and producers, of all levels, including beginners.”
The CT-S1000V will be priced at $799.95 when it goes on sale online and in stores in the coming weeks.
