Kobo comes to the rescue for Sony Reader customers
Kobo, one of the global leaders in eReading, will offer Sony Reader and Xperia tablet users a lifeline when the Sony Reader Store is closed down next month.
The Kobo ecosystem has more than four million and the company has also produced a number of impressive eReading devices and tablets.
Sony announced it would no longer be supporting its line of Sony Readers and Xperia tablets and smartphones with a dedicated Reader Store.
Sony Reader Stores in Australia, UK, Germany and Australia will close on June 16.
From then, customers who had been accessing Sony’s Reader Store will receive an email from Kobo with instructions on how they can transfer their existing library and migrate to a Kobo account.
The popular free Kobo app will also now be pre-loaded on selected Sony smartphones and tablets.
“We are delighted to be working with Sony to reach the most passionate Readers in Europe and Australia, by bringing the Kobo world to Reader Store customers – keeping them reading their favourite stories,” said Takahito Aiki, CEO, Kobo.
“Both companies share the goal of putting the most passionate booklovers at the centre of the reading experience.
“This means providing the best experience through innovative technology coupled with a vast and comprehensive digital reading ecosystem.”
Kobo has more than 20 million customers around the world and works with more than 1.3 million authors to deliver a huge catalogue of around four million books and magazines.
