The keynote for Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference ran for two hours to introduce the new products and operating systems but that still wasn’t enough time to get to all the new features.
Here are some of the new features that didn’t make the keynote.
PHOTOS PRIVACY PERMISSION IMPROVEMENTS
Often apps ask for access to your photo library but now the new embedded Photos Picker allows users to share a chosen set of photos with apps so the rest of their library stays private. And when an app asks for permission to access your photo library, you’ll also be shown more information about what they will be sharing.
FACEBOOK MESSAGES ON APPLE WATCH
One of the new FaceTime features is being able to leave a video message. Now with Apple Watch with watchOS 10 users can watch those FaceTime video messages on their wrist. Also, Group FaceTime audio is now supported on Apple Watch.
OFFLINE MAPS
Now users can access Maps when you’re offline. It will now be possible to download the portion of the map you need so you can still access turn-by-turn navigation and see how long the journey will take.
FASTER CROPPING
When it comes to editing photos, cropping is one of the common moves you are likely to make. In the Photos app in iOS 17 there will be a crop button on the top right corner. Before you had to press edit and look for the cropping tool. Now that cropping option will be right at your fingertips.
CREATE A REPLICA OF YOUR VOICE
There is an accessibility feature for those who have lost or are losing the ability to speak that allows them to build up about 15 minutes of audio to be able to respond in certain situations. Personal Voice is part of iOS 17 and requires users to read certain phrases aloud to create and store your voice. This can then be used with Live Speech which can speak anything you type.
CLEAN UP VERIFICATION CODE TEXT MESSAGES
If you have two-factor authentication activated (and we believe you should) you receive a few messages with a code so you can log in securely into your account. This is fine but these messages can tend to clog up your messages. Now in iOS 17 there is an option in the Password Options settings to clean out these messages automatically once you’re securely logged in to your account.
CONTACT AND PASSWORD SHARING
We often share contact information and passwords with others and in iOS 17 if you make a long press in the text field the options of scanning text and sharing contacts and passwords appear instead of having to dig through your iPhone to find them.
PODCAST WIDGET
The Podcast app in iOS 17 is getting a slight makeover but the handiest change is with the Podcast widget that will now make it possible to play and pause from the home screen without the need to open the app.
MAPS FOR EV CHARGING
Another new feature in Apple Maps will be the ability for EV drivers to choose their preferred charging network so they can find them easier on the map when they need to charge or if they’re on a road trip.
