Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced a new slim-line PS5 console will go on sale on December 6 with pre-orders kicking off today.
The new PlayStation 5 has a smaller and slimmer design but packs the same power as the original model and includes 1TB of storage for the PS5 and PS5 digital edition.
This new model also makes it possible to add an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive to the PS5 digital edition.
Sony created the new form factor to provide players with more flexibility and choice while at the same time ensuring the same technology was being offered despite the smaller housing.
The new slim PS5 has 30 per cent less volume and is 24 per cent lighter (PS5 Digital Edition is 18 per cent lighter).
The new external measurements make it 35.8cm wide, 9.6cm high and 21.6cm deep with a weight of 3.2kg.
The new design has four separate cover panels with glossy panels on top and a matte finish down below.
Customers who purchase the PS5 digital edition have the option of adding the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive for PS5 later – this will be sold separately for $159.95.
There will also be a number of colour covers for the new slimmer model from early next year including all matte black and the Deep Earth Collection colours in volcanic red, cobalt blue and sterling silver.
The new slim PlayStation 5 console will go on sale on December 6 with pre-orders commencing from today.
