Apple has unveiled its new iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro line-ups which include improved displays, even more advanced camera systems, a faster A15 bionic processor and better battery life than ever before.
The iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will be available to pre-order this week and go on sale in Australia on September 24.
The range of new iPhones are all 5G compatible, offer improved performance, better and brighter displays and upgraded camera systems to shoot enhanced images and stunning cinematic video.
On the design side, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini, with 6.1-inch and 5.4-inch Ceramic Shield screen sizes respectively, still retain their flat edges and flat screen but with a 20 per cent smaller notch which houses the TrueDepth camera system to power Face ID.
iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini will be available in five colours – blue, midnight, starlight, and (PRODUCT)RED plus an all-new pink option.
The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, with 6.1 inch and 6.7-inch Ceramic Shield displays respectively, are made from surgical grade aluminium in four impressive finishes including graphite, gold, silver and the new sierra blue.
The TrueDepth notch is also 20 per cent smaller on the iPhone 13 Pro models.
Performance-wise, the new iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro range is powered by the A15 Bionic processor – the fastest chip in a smartphone.
It has a new 5 core GPU which makes it 50 per cent faster than the leading competition and is ideal for video apps, high performance gaming and the new camera features.
The new 16-core Neural Engine is capable of 15.8 trillion operations per second to allow even faster machine learning computations.
All of the new iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro models will all be running iOS 15.
iPHONE 13 PRO and iPHONE 13 PRO MAX
The new iPhone 13 Pro range now include an advanced Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion which offers an adaptive refresh rate between 10Hz and 120Hz which can adjust in real-time to what you are viewing on the device.
It can offer faster frame rates when needed, like when watching videos or playing games, and can drop down to 10Hz to preserve the battery when browsing the web or viewing static images.
The new intelligent display includes a more efficient OLED panel which offers up to 25 per cent higher outdoor brightness at 1000nits.
If photography is your main interest, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max have taken a big leap forward with new sensors and new lenses for all three of the rear cameras.
iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max have an even larger camera sensor so there is less noise and faster shutter speeds for even more precise and detailed images.
The big improvement is in low light situations with the sensor drawing in up to 2.2 times more light than the iPhone 12 Pro and nearly 1.5 times more light than iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Also on board both iPhone 13 Pro models is sensor shift optical image stabilisation (OIS).
The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max also include a new 77mm telephoto camera and allow you to get even closer to your subjects with video and photos thanks to the 3x optical zoom for a total of 6x optical zoom range on the camera system.
One of the biggest improvements has come for shooting video with the new cinematic mode that includes rack focus.
The creates a beautiful depth effect with automatic focus changes so you can capture cinema style moments like a professional filmmaker.
iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will also allow ProRes, which is an advanced video codec used widely as the final delivery format for commercials feature films and broadcasts.
In terms of battery performance, the iPhone Pro line-up has taken a huge leap forward thanks to its power efficient components and larger battery.
The iPhone 13 Pro will offer one and half hours more battery life than the iPhone 12 Pro while the iPhone 13 Pro Max delivers up to two and a half hours more battery life than the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will have an all new 1TB storage option along with 128GB, 256GB and 512GB variants.
The iPhone 13 Pro starts at $1,699 while the iPhone 13 Pro Max will start at $1,849.
iPHONE 13 and iPHONE 13 MINI
The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini include a Super Retina XDR OLED display for remarkable contrast ratio to achieve true blacks and a 28 per cent increase in maximum outdoor brightness at 800nits.
They include the most advanced dual camera system ever seen in an iPhone with the largest sensor that’s capable of gathering 47 per cent more light.
Sensor shift OIS, introduced in the iPhone 12 Pro Max last year, has also been brought to the wide camera on both the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini.
It stabilises the sensor rather than the lens so shots even more steady while the custom ultra-wide camera gathers more detail in dark areas of photos and videos than ever before.
Also onboard is the new cinematic mode to enable incredible depth effects for your videos.
Battery performance for the iPhone 13 has improved with two and a half hours more power than the iPhone 12 while the iPhone 13 Mini adds an hour and a half more in a day than the iPhone 12 Mini.
The iPhone 13 an iPhone 13 mini now offer a new entry level 128GB capacity along with 256GB and 512GB capacities.
The iPhone 13 starts at $1,349 with the iPhone 13 Mini starting at $1199.
