Tesla’s Cybertruck has been spotted in Sydney streets and could be an indication that it will one day become available to Australian drivers.

The monster stainless-steel clad electric truck was seen at Bondi beach and documented on the Tesla Australia New Zealand Instagram account.

Tesla teased something was coming a few days with a shot of a container being opened.

This post was then followed today by a shot of the Cybertruck at Bondi Beach flanked by the Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y.

There was also some video of the huge Cybertruck cruising Sydney’s streets.

There have also been many social media posts shared by people who saw the electric truck as it drove by.

Since its launch in the US it has been plagued with problems.

Most recently the Cybertruck was recalled because of an issue with the accelerator pedal which could slip off its mounting and get stuck in place increasing the speed of the vehicle.

There have also been complaints from the first batch of owners, who have waited years for delivery, about quality control and the truck’s panel alignment and finish.

In the US, the Cybertruck is priced from $US60,000 plus on-road costs with the tri-motor version more than $US100,000.

So if it ever comes to Australia it won’t be cheap.

Tesla has introduced its most powerful Model 3 to date with enhanced performance, and stability and an improved design.

The new performance drive unit takes the vehicle from 0 to 100km/h in 3.1 seconds with a top speed of 265km/h and a range of 528km.

The new Tesla Model 3 Performance rides on staggered, forged aluminium 20-inch wheels with new 20-inch performance tyres for sharper response and increased traction out of corners and on various surfaces.

It includes adaptive damping technology which is controlled via the onboard software and integrated it into the Tesla Vehicle Dynamics Controller (VDC) to improve handling performance without sacrificing everyday usability.

The new Tesla Model 3 Performance also has an upgraded chassis to match the drive systems and suspension performance with increased structural stiffness and improved springs and stabiliser bars.

The latest version of track mode can integrate adaptive suspension controls that can immediately respond to driver inputs for maximum control.

The new Tesla model 3 Performance incorporates the latest design with a new front and rear facias for improved aerodynamics.

Also included are new sport seats with side cushions and side bolsters to offer more support during cornering and dynamic driving.

These new sports seats also include the existing heating and ventilation functions.

Inside is a new carbon fibre trim with a unique Tesla-first weave pattern which distinguishes the Model 3 Performance from the rest of the Model 3 line-up.

MG Motor has won the prestigious Red Dot Award for Product Design its world-first all-electric convertible sport car the MG Cyberster.

For 100 years MG has grown from an iconic sports car manufacturer to become a popular and innovative EV brand.

The evolution of the MG brand has been rewarded with the Red Dot Award in the Product Design category.

The MG Cyberster is a two-seat roadster with gull wings doors that will be released in Australia later this year. It is expected to be priced at more than $100,000.

“The Cyberster pays respects to 100 years of MG creating vehicles that people love to drive. We don’t think of ourselves as just car owners, it’s more than that,” says MG Motor Australia CEO Peter Ciao.

“These cars and MG are a part of history and we’re lucky enough to be their custodians.”

The Red Dot Award is a prestigious accolade for design and innovation and the victory for MG rewards it’s creativity and desire to reach new levels of design for everyday Australians.

The MG Cyberster is 4535mm long, 1913mm wide and 1329mm tall and rides on a 2690mm wheelbase.

The car has 20-inch alloys and a 77kWh battery with dual electric motors which can take the Cyberster from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.2 seconds.

MG Motor says the MG Cyberster is the world’s first all-electric convertible sports car and is based on MG’s new MSP (modular scalable platform).

The car has a folding fabric roof that can open and close in just 10 seconds even while driving at speeds of up to 50 kilometres an hour.

“In 2017 when I came into Australia with MG, I trusted the commercial logic – build a team, a brand, a company and focus on professionalism and provide the best value, or better value than other options,” Mr Ciao says.

“After seven years, there is no change, I’m still focused on this.

MG Motor has made its entire range of electric vehicles even more affordable after moving its entire EV line-up to driveaway pricing.

Effective from today, the MG drive away pricing means all on-road costs will be included in the quoted price – a potential saving of thousands of dollars.

That means the most affordable models – the MG4 51kWh Excite MY23 and ZS EV Excite will both remain at $39,990 thanks to MG absorbing the additional on-roads costs into the sticker price.

MG Motor Australia CEO Peter Ciao says the move was designed offer more value for money for Australians who are being impacted by the rising cost of living.

“We are serious about our commitment to support the new Vehicle Efficiency Standard and once again, MG is putting customers first by ensuring everyone can access a wide range of affordable zero emission vehicles thanks to reduced nationwide driveaway pricing on the entire MG4 range including XPOWER as well as the ZS EV,” Mr Ciao said.

The MG CEO says the decision was not just to save people money but to debunk the misconceptions of owning an EV.

“In a market where customers are becoming increasingly aware of their finances, providing transparency on the final cost customers will pay for buying an EV and for servicing is very important, that’s why MG has made the move to offer both to customers with no hidden costs,” he said.

“Customers like choices. We want them to be empowered to have the freedom to drive a SUV or a hatch, which is why we are offering both the MG4 51kWh Excite and ZS EV Excite at under $40K drive away.

“Whenever we are able to pass price reductions like this onto our customers, we will make sure we do.”

Uniden has just introduced the latest members of its dash cam family – the DashView and iGO Cam series. There are five new models in the ranges led by the DashView 60+ which is Uniden’s first 5K resolution dash Cam.

While electric vehicle sales are slowly increasing but a shortage of chargers in some areas has become a barrier to entry for some drivers. But what about if you can use private chargers owned by current EV drivers?

That’s the model behind the platform being built by PowerPod that will become another section of the share economy.

We have Airbnb to rent out your house, Uber to get someone to give you a lift in their car. There’s even a service where you can hire out your backyard pool.

Soon there will be an app where you’ll be able to offer access to the EV charger in your driveway when you’re not using it.

And EV drivers will be able to use that same app to locate nearby available chargers and pay for the energy they use to charge their electric car.

PowerPod is building decentralized physical infrastructure network of community owned EV chargers.

This integration will be able record and store charging session data, handle transcations and provide rewards in the form of tokens.

One third of possible EV buyers cite the lack of infrastructure as they reason they haven’t pulled the trigger on their purchase.

But the network of private chargers is only going to grow and being able to see where they are and access them will give these reluctant EV converts added peace of mind.

For the owner, this system will allow them to earn some extra money to offset the cost of charging their own EV and their power bill.

PowerPod is also working on some hardware as well including its own EV charger, a smart charger adapter and a travel adapter that will allow drivers to charge their cars from a regular power socket.

These devices will be able to tap into the platform to handle charging session data and allow drivers to pay for the power they use.

The Polestar 4 electric car – which combines the look of a coupe and the space of an SUV – has gone on sale in Australia with the first orders expected to hit the road by August.

Starting at $81,500, the Polestar 4 is the fastest production the car the company has produced and can go 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds.

Both long range models have a 100kWh battery with the long range dual motor offering a range of 580km while the long range single motor takes the range up to 610km.

“The introduction of Polestar 4 into all our markets through the course of 2024 is key to our success, adding this third model to our line-up. Polestar 4 tackles the premium performance class in the D-SUV segment.

Polestar 4’s innovative interpretation of an SUV coupé offers great interior space and a stunning appearance,” says Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO.

The Polestar 4 – which in terms of size price sits between Polestar 2 and 3 – has a striking design with dual blade front headlights, retractable door handles and an aerodynamic shape.

Where did the rear window go?

Inside is a 15.4-inch landscape screen where you can control the infotainment system powered by the Android Automotive OS which includes Google Maps, Google Assistant, Android Auto and wireless CarPlay.

There is a 10.2-inch driver cluster that is mounted ahead of the steering column which displays speed, battery and range information.

Also onboard is a Harman Kardon audio system with 12 speakers and a 1400-Watt channel-hybrid amplifier.

The EV also has a full-length glass roof that stretches back past the rear passengers’ heads.

The rear passengers also have their own media and climate control screen.

But one thing missing from the Polestar 4 is the rear window.

But it still has a rear-view mirror which is actually a high-definition screen that shows the driver a live real-time feed from a roof mounted camera which has a wide field of view that even lets you check your blind spots.

“With Polestar Precept we previewed a stunning new occupant experience by removing the rear window and pushing the rear header, which plays an integral safety role, further back,” says Maximilian Missoni, Head of Design at Polestar.

“This means that now, rear occupants can have a unique experience in our SUV coupé.”

LG might be best known for home entertainment products but at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the company is switching gears and introducing a new cross platform Advanced Driver Assistance System that includes automated driving.

The system was developed by LG in collaboration with Magna, a global mobility tech company, and is designed to deliver automated driving capabilities and in-vehicle infotainment technology.

LG will provide private demonstrations for auto manufacturers during this year’s CES trade show.

LG and Magna have managed to integrate the cross domain cockpit computing system into a single System on Chip (SoC) to offer more flexibility and cost effectiveness for OEM’s.

The system has been designed using fewer electronic control units and takes up much less space within the vehicle.

LG says this solution is scalable and is perfect fit as the industry moved towards the Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) and the consolidation of its electrical/electronic architecture.

Among the new experiences the system can provide are a dedicated human machine interface to offer more natural and intuitive interactions while using advanced automotive displays, digital clusters, augmented reality heads up displays and visualisation software.

And the system can also be customised to meet different car manufacturers integrated communications and system needs.

It is expected 2027 model year vehicles will be the first to run LG’s advanced in-vehicle technology.

“We are extremely pleased with the progress we have made on this future mobility technology,” said Eun Seok-hyun, president of LG Vehicle component Solutions Company. “LG and Magna’s joint efforts will help push the industry forward, facilitating the rapid adoption of crucial technologies that elevate driving safety and the on-road experience.”

MG is making even larger inroads in the electric vehicle market because it offers a range of choices and prices. It’s latest model – the MG4 XPOWER – brings more features and performance to the table.

It can go 0-100km/h in an impressive 3.8 seconds – that’s up there with a Tesla.

Priced at $59,990 plus on-road costs, the MG4 XPOWER is MG’s highest performing all-wheel drive electric hatchback.

In fact, it is the company’s most powerful production car ever.

MG has staked its claim in the Australian EV market by delivering drivers an attractive, powerful and dynamic vehicle at an affordable price.

Now MG has expanded that offering for the customer who wants to feel a little more power and a touch more luxury with its latest MG4 XPOWER.


Under the hood is 320kW of power and up to 600Nm torque and that puts the MG4 XPOWER in great company with some of the highest performing EVs on the market – but at a more competitive price.

It has a 64kWh battery with a range of about 400km.

It can charge up to 140kW so it’s possible to go from 10 per cent to 80 per cent using 150kW DC rapid charger in just 26 minutes.

Design-wise, the MG4 XPOWER has some subtle improvements over the more affordable models including two-tone black roof, the standout orange brake callipers, 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels and polished trim accents.

It also has LED DRL headlights and taillights.

The MG4 XPOWER we drove for a week was black but there is an all-new colour option Hunter Green.

Inside the MG4 XPOWER is quite spacious and can comfortably seat five adults and has plenty of headroom.

The seats are PU (polyurethane) leather and Alcantara with orange stitching to give it that added touch of luxury.

The intelligent interior includes a 7-inch digital cluster in front of the driver and a 10.25-inch main touchscreen display which includes CarPlay and Android Auto.

CarPlay and Android Auto can be activated when the iPhone or Android device is connected to the car’s USB-A port with a cable.

Android users and those with the latest iPhone 15 will require a USB-C to USB-A cable.

Drivers can also wirelessly charge their smartphone up to 15W on the small shelf below the screen which non-slip pad, so the device won’t move while you’re driving.

Like other EVs, the MG4 XPOWER has one pedal driving capabilities thanks to your choice of recuperation levels once you take your foot off the accelerator.

This action puts the EV’s motors into reverse and the power generated at that point is put back into the battery.

It means that you can drive using just one pedal because the recuperation slows the car down enough for most of those times when you need to brake without stopping.

On the safety side, the MG4 has Dynamic Cornering Control System and Intelligent Motor Control to handle torque vectoring between all four wheels so you always have maximum traction and in all driving conditions.

Also onboard is MG Pilot which offers a range of safety equipment and features including Active Emergency Braking with Pedestrian and Bicycle Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control with Traffic Jam Assist, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist with Traffic Sign Recognition, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning System, Driver Attention Alert, Intelligent High Beam Assist.

There is also a 360 degree camera to help you with parking and showing you exactly what’s around you.

Also included is a six speaker audio system that offers impressive audio quality whether you’re listening to music, a podcast or making a phone call.

There is plenty of space in the boot to fit the shopping and other larger items with 363L with the back seats up and 1165L with the back seats down.

The MG4 XPOWER is available now and is priced at $59,990 plus on-road costs.

The new Tesla Model 3 has received a significant redesign with a number of new features which will make the already popular electric vehicle even more in demand.

Tech Guide got behind the wheel of the new 2024 Tesla Model 3 long range edition which starts at $71,900 plus on road costs.

The vehicle has a range of up to 629km with a top speed of 201km/h.

And it can go from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.4 seconds.

On the outside there are a few obvious changes with a sleeker and more aerodynamic look.

We noticed there are less curves on the vehicle and a lot more straight lines to give it a more aggressive stance.

It has new wing-shaped headlights which now have integrated fog lamps to help improve night driving.

Around the back there’s also a new style of taillight which is designed as one piece and integrates into the tailgate.

But it’s when you go inside the car that you’ll notice even more changes.

The inside of the Tesla model 3 is already quite minimal and the new steering wheel takes that even further.

You’ll notice there are no stalks on either side of the wheel which normally allow drivers to access the wipers, indicators and to change gears.

These features have been taken away and placed as buttons on the wheel itself or on the large 15-inch central display.

The indicators are now on the steering wheel itself as buttons on the left side that allow you to indicate whether you’re turning left or right.

Drivers will hear and see the indicator on the screen along with the camera on that side of the car to give drivers a clear review of the direction they’re turning.

Naturally the indicator turns off once you’ve completed your turn – but what about when you change lanes?

We found the indicator automatically switched off when the vehicle saw us cross to the lane so there’s no need to press the button a second time to turn off the indicator for those quick lane changes.

The only issue we found with this was that when you are trying to indicate immediately after a turn it was hard to figure out which button to pressed because they were upside down or sideways.

It actually took our focus off the road to work out which was the right button we needed to press.

There’s no such problem with a stationary stalk which can be engaged no matter how far you’ve turned the wheel.

But what about the gear changer which is normally a stalk on the right hand side of the wheel?

To put the car into gear there is a section on the right edge of the display which allows you to slide up to drive, slide down to put the car into reverse and buttons to put the car into park or into neutral.

When you select drive by swiping up on the screen a large arrow is seen giving the driver the directional information.

And when swiping down to go into reverse, the rear cameras are automatically activated.

This didn’t take too much getting used to but if you are making a series of quick turns or reversing out of a tight space your arm is moving a fair bit.

But there is another option near the rear view mirror which give drivers push button controls to put the car into park, reverse and to turn on the hazard lights.

In this position some drivers could see it as a bit of a hassle to have to raise your arm to change gears instead of having the effortless stalks literally at your fingertips while your hands are still safely on the wheel.

Another thing you won’t find in the Tesla Model 3 is a driver cluster – something the previous Model 3 left out as well.

This means drivers have to glance to their left at the centre screen to see their speed and other information while they’re driving.

A feature that the Model 3 is crying out for is a heads-up display (HUD) so drivers can see their speed and other vital information as they are looking through the windscreen at the road.

This would surely make up for the fact that there is no small screen in front of the steering wheel and allow drivers to literally keep their eyes on the road while still seeing how fast they’re going along with navigation instructions and other information.

Inside the new Tesla Model 3 there is plenty of room with plenty of headroom and legroom for yourself and your passengers.

I’m pretty tall and I found there was plenty of room to sit comfortably. And the rear passengers could be seated comfortably as well.

In the central console there’s also a generous amount of storage space including two cup holders and two large storage areas.

There are also two wireless smart phone chargers as well so you can be charging while driving.

The Tesla Model 3 also has an accent light which runs from the passenger door across the dashboard and around to the driver’s door.

And, of course, drivers are able to choose from more than 200 colours via the main display to suit their taste or your mood.

One of the trademark features of the Tesla model 3 is the large 15 inch display which basically puts nearly every control at your fingertips as well as giving you access to the maps, settings and other apps to stream music or to view content.

You can’t view content while you’re driving of course but while charging or waiting you can fire up Netflix or Disney+ and YouTube.

But there is a second screen in the car for the rear passengers.

This 8-inch display allows them to connect their headphones via Bluetooth to stream their own music in the back seat or access the car’s Spotify account.

The rear display also gives those backseat passengers access to Netflix, Disney+ and YouTube so they can enjoy streaming content and keep themselves entertained without disturbing the driver and front passenger.

This rear screen also gives them control of the air conditioning.

On the storage side, the front trunk has adequate space for your groceries or a carry-on bag if you’re taking someone to the airport.

In the back is a surprisingly large boot space which can easily fit your golf clubs and other larger items.

There’s even a sub trunk space below a small panel that also offers a large amount of storage.

It’s now also a much quieter ride inside the Tesla model 3 thanks to the new 360-degree acoustic glass which cuts out a lot of the road noise.

What adds to the silence is the increased suspension bushings and improved seals along with the addition of a lot of other sound dampening materials.

The new Tesla Model 3 offers the same smoothness and driving performance as its predecessor with solid handling and plenty of zip when required.

The rear wheel drive model starts at 61,900 plus on road costs and the dual motor all-wheel drive long range model we reviewed starts at $71,900.

According to the Tesla website, customers who order now will have their car delivered between January and April 2024.

VERDICT
The new redesign Tesla Model 3 is a huge step forward for Australia’s most popular electric car. The new design and numerous new features form an impressive upgrade and are certain to increase the already high demand.

BYD has revealed its latest electric vehicle – the BYD Seal – a mid-size sedan that offers affordable luxury and priced from below $50,000 plus on road costs.

The BYD Seal will sit in the same class as the Tesla Model 3 – but the BYD starting price will be almost $12,000 cheaper.

In fact, the BYD website and order page for its BYD Seal looks a lot like the Tesla website and order page.

The new BYD Seal has what BYD says is the world’s safest battery which integrates the cell to the body to make the Seal lighter and more efficient.

It has a 2,920mm wheelbase and can comfortably sit five adults.

BYD says the Seal will be available to Australian drivers as early as December.

The BYD Seal is available in three models – Dynamic, Premium and Performance.

The exterior styling is sleek design and aggressive stance and includes floating LED headlights and ripple lamps.

On the inside, users will find full connectivity including Bluetooth, wired CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite navigation and two wireless phone charging docks.

And everything can be controlled by the 15.6-inch infotainment touch screen which can be rotated to either landscape or portrait orientation.

MG Motor Australia has unveiled its new MG4 EV XPOWER model which features dual motor all-wheel drive and that can zip from 0 to 100km/h in 3.8 seconds.

The new MG4 XPOWER is priced at $59,990 plus on road costs.

The XPOWER is the company’s highest performing all-wheel drive electric hatchback – in fact it will be its most powerful production car ever.

The company’s approach with the MG4 XPOWER is all about delivering to Australian drivers impressive power and dynamics at an extremely competitive price.

With 320kW of power and up to 600Nm torque, the MG4 XPOWER is up there with some of the highest performing EVs on the market and offers plenty of bang for your buck.

The MG4 XPOWER can go zero to 100km/h in 3.8 seconds so you’re definitely ticking the box when it comes to performance.

The car also has several understated exterior design revisions which also helps it stand out from the crowd.

On the outside you’ll see orange XPOWER brake callipers, two tone black roof with 18-inch alloy wheels and polished trim accents and an all-new colour option – Hunter Green.

The MG4 XPOWER is based on the Modular Scalable Platform and has a dual motor configuration to deliver to all four wheels via 150kW at the front and rear 170kW electric motors for a total of 320kW.

On the safety side, there are new upgrades including a new Dynamic Cornering Control System available for the first time in an MG vehicle plus an Intelligent Motor Control to control torque vectoring between all four wheels to gain maximum traction in all driving conditions.

The 64kWh battery is capable of charging at up to 140kW so users can go from 10 per cent to 80 per cent using 150kW DC rapid charger in just 26 minutes.

Tesla has revealed its upgraded Model 3 electric vehicle which includes an updated design and a range of new features inside and out.

Australian customers can configure the new Model 3 on the Tesla website with delivery expected between January and March 2024.

The most obvious change is the look of the vehicle which has a sleek and more aerodynamic look to help reduce drag and noise and increase range.

It has new wing-shaped headlights with integrated fog lamps to improve safety while driving at night.

The new Tesla Model 3 sports a new taillight which is designed in one piece and integrated into the boot.

And there are also two new paint options in Australia and New Zealand – Ultra Red and Stealth Grey.

There are numerous changes in the interior including a redesigned centre console to offer more space for the driver and passengers.

EVs are already quiet but the Model 3 will offer an even quieter ride courtesy of the 360-degree acoustic glass technology.

Noise will also be reduced with increased suspension bushings, improved seals and the addition of sound dampening materials.

The new Model 3 interior now incorporates ambient lighting which is customizable from over 200 different colour combinations to offer yet another level of personalization.

Rear passengers will have access to an 8-inch touch screen so they can control air conditioning and entertainment from their rear seats.

Up front the 15-inch touch screen has also been improved with increased brightness and faster responsiveness along with a customizable user interface that will be improved constantly thanks to Tesla’s regular over the air updates.

The new Model 3 has taken a leaf out of the Model S Plaid’s (not available in Australia) book by eliminating stalks and the drive selector and replacing them with on-wheel and touchscreen controls.

Smart shift, first seen in the Model S plaid, can automatically select the correct driving direction for you instead of manually choosing it yourself.

On the safety side, the new Tesla Model 3 has energy absorbing side sills, a fortified battery pack mounted low in the vehicle to eliminate rollover risks as well as a super strong metal body structure that can withstand tremendous weight far beyond the actual weight of the car.

Drivers will enjoy new comfort and driving quality thanks to next-generation vehicle stability, improved power distribution and Tesla’s impressive traction control.

There are also upgraded wheel configurations in 18 inch and 19 inch options.

The new Tesla Model 3 starts at $61,900 plus on road costs. It offers up to 513km range.
