Google Maps can now help you navigate complex train stations

Google Australia has partnered with Transport NSW and launched new tools on Google Maps designed to help commuters plan their journey inside complex Sydney train and metro stations.

Now Google Maps has included street-view type imagery for more than 130 train stations in NSW and more than a dozen metro stations including St James, Circular Quay, Milsons Point and Parramatta.

Users will be able look inside stations in the same way they can look around the streets using street view with panoramic imagery so you’ll know your way when you arrive.

They will be able to see entrances and exits and directions to different platforms as if they are there.

This makes it easier for people to plan their journey and familiarise themselves with these stations which can be confusing for first time visitors.

This new feature is also useful for those who require wheelchair access to map their journey.

For the first time, Google Maps is bringing detailed navigation directions for accessible routes across 70 complex train and metro stations across Sydney.

This will allow wheelchair passengers to find the best and most accessible routes, entrances, exits, signage and paths inside the station.

This is also useful for passengers travelling with prams and luggage or with crutches.

To find these accessible navigation directions on desktop or the Google Maps app type your destination into Google Maps.

Next tap “Directions”, then select the public transport icon and any route options (such as “wheelchair accessible”, “fewer transfers” and “less walking”).

After you tap your chosen route, the detailed navigation instructions will be displayed if your route takes you through a complex station in Sydney.
