Virgin offers Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 for inflight entertainment

Virgin Australia will introduce the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 as part of the airline’s new in-flight entertainment system from April.

The Samsung tablet will be used to deliver entertainment aboard Virgin Australia’s fleet of 737 and Embraer E190 aircraft.

Business class passengers will have access to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 on all sectors with Economy class passengers able to use the device on flights over three hours.

Each of the Samsung tablets will be pre-loaded with a range of movies, TV programs and audio content.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 features a 16:9 widescreen aspect high resolution screen with 149 pixels per inch. The device is only 8.6mm thick and weighs just 565g.

Martin Daley, Virgin Australia’s group executive for product and guest services, says the in-flight entertainment service will be enhanced even further in phase two.

“In phase two guests will have access to a wide range of products including video and audio streaming delivered on demand to their own personal electronic devices, wi-fi enabled laptops or the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1,” he said.

Mr Daley says Virgin Australia’s wi-fi inflight entertainment system will appeal to the growing number of travellers bringing their own electronic devices onboard.

The Virgin Australia inflight entertainment system will allow passengers to:

* Control and view content from wi-fi enabled personal electronic devices and laptops.

* Choose from a wide range of movies, TV shows and audio content.

* View content on demand and stop, pause and rewind content.

* Play a selection of games suitable for children and adults.

* Access service and product information including airport and destination guides, travel offers and Velocity information.
