Samsung unveils new Galaxy and ATIV devices
Samsung has just unveiled new Android and Windows devices including a Galaxy S4 Mini smartphone, ATIV Windows tablets and laptops and Galaxy cameras.
The launch event was held at the Earls Court Exhibition Centre in London with the theme around making people’s lives easier, more creative and productive.
There were a total of nine new products announced at the event along with five new colours for the popular Galaxy S4 smartphone – purple, red, blue, brown and pink.
Among the new devices were three new Galaxy S4 family members plus new ATIV Windows tablets, laptops and a desktop PC.
GALAXY S4 ACTIVE
With a name like Active, the new device is all about durability and being able to handle the rigours of an energetic lifestyle.
It is IP67 certified making it waterproof and dust proof. It can even take pictures underwater using the volume rocker and can stay submerged for up to 30 minutes at a depth of one metre.
It has a 5-inch TFT display with 443 pixels per inch (PPI), an 8-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front camera with 16GB of internal storage that’s expandable with a microSD card slot.
Also on board is NFC (near field communication) and it comes in three colours – Urban Grey, Orange Flare and Dive Blue.
GALAXY S4 MINI
This is a slightly smaller version of the Galaxy S4 with a 4.3-inch HD Super AMOLED screen with 1.7Ghz dual core processor, 1.5GB RAM, 8GB of internal storage and an 8-megapixel camera.
GALAXY S4 ZOOM
The Galaxy S4 Zoom is a digital camera that’s been combined with an Android smartphone and is aimed at users who want to take higher quality images that are easy to share using a single device.
It is the only smartphone in the world with a 10x optical zoom for taking high quality pictures.
The device has a 16-megapixel sensor along with optical image stabiliser and a xenon flash. It is available in two colours – Black Mist and White Frost – the same as the Galaxy S4 smartphone.
A nifty new feature is In-Call Share allows users to take a photo during a call which can be sent to the person you’re talking to.
GALAXY NX
The connected camera has stepped up a class with the Galaxy NX which is a mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses along with 4G connectivity and running the Android operating system.
Users have 13 lenses to choose from with the Galaxy NX and it has a 20.3-megapixel sensor on board plus a 4.8-inch HD TFT screen and a 1.6Ghz quad core processor.
The device is running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system and offers the connection to share your photos and videos.
ATIV Q
This device has the convenience of a tablet and the power of a laptop along with a 13.3-inch display.
It is actually running two operating systems – Windows 8 and Android with the ability to switch back and forth seamlessly.
The ATIV Q has 3200 x 1800 resolution display with the Intel 4th Generation Core processor under the hood.
The adaptable device’s screen folds out to allow it to be positioned to use as a laptop or placed in a reading or viewing position.
ATIV TAB 3
This is the world’s thinnest Windows 8 tablet which has taken a leaf out of the Galaxy Tab design book.
It has a thickness of just 8.2mm and weighs only 550g with a 10.1-inch screen.
The ATIV Tab 3 is also running the full version of Windows 8 to provide full computing power on the go.
Also included with the ATIV Tab 3 is the S Pen stylus which allows users to write directly on the screen.
ATIV BOOK 9 PLUS
This is Samsung’s premium Windows 8 laptop which has a sleek design with a thickness of 13.6mm and a weight of only 1.39kg.
It has a 12-hour battery and has the same touchscreen display 13.3-inch as the ATIV Q with a resolution of 3200 x 1800.
ATIV BOOK 9 LITE
This is the entry level version of the ATIV Book 9 range which is just 16.9mm thick with most of the features found on the high end model but at a more affordable price.
It comes in three colours – Marble White, Ash Black and Wine Red.
ATIV ONE 5 STYLE
The ATIV One 5 Style is a desktop Windows 8 PC with the same design look and curves as the Galaxy S4.
At its thickest points it is only 26.9mm thick with a 5mm edge and has a quad core processor to make it a computing powerhouse and an entertainment solution.
Also on board the ATIV One 5 Style has a feature called HomeSync Lite which also turns the device into a home cloud storage system to back up your other products.
These products will be available in Australia in the coming months.
