Telstra partners with MOG unlimited music service

mogthumbAustralia will soon have access to unlimited music streaming and more than 15 million songs after Telstra announcing a partnership with subscription music media company MOG.

The service is expected to launch in the coming months with users able to download the MOG app to their smartphone and tablet or sign in to their account on a Mac or a PC.

Pricing has yet to be announced but the US MOG site has a $US9.99 a month Primo account which offers unlimited access to the service and unlimited downloads from any device or computer and with no ads.

The US site also has an entry level FreePlay plan which allows users to listen to music free along with a Basic $US4.99 a month plan offering unlimited music but with no ads.

If Australian pricing of MOG follows the path of other streaming services like Rdio, Rara.com and Samsung’s Music Hub, then expect to pay about $12.99 for the Primo plan.

Here is what MOG will offer Australian customers when it is launched later this year:

* On demand unlimited streaming ad-free listening to any artist, album or song using MOG’s HTML5 browser-based player.

* Unlimited downloads to a mobile device to allow offline listening like onboard a plane, for example.

* MOG Radio – personalised radio allows users to access a variety of playlists.

* Personalised recommendations based on preferences and listening habits.

* High quality audio – MOG’s music is streamed at 320kps.

* Curated content – MOG has a complete list of new releases, most played, editor picks and featured playlists.

Telstra’s executive director of media, applications and user experience J-B Rousselot says the partnership was a win for Australian music lovers.

“The number of subscribers to mobile music streaming services is expected to approach 161 million worldwide by 2016 and Australians will become a part of the music revolution with this deal,” he said.

“The days of storing CDs or loading your playlists onto all your devices are coming to an end.

“The subscriptions service means Australians will be able to stream music from a library of more than 15 million tracks to their phone, tablet or PC whenever they want.”

The MOG service will be available to all Australian customers regardless of their mobile or home network.
