Toshiba releases world’s thinnest, lightest tablet

Toshiba can now lay claim to having the world’s thinnest and lightest 10.1-inch tablet with its new AT200.

The sleek Toshiba Tablet AT200 is just 7.7mm thick and tips the scales at a lightweight 535g.

AT200 will be running the Android 3.2 operating system and will be available in stores from early next month. It will be priced at $579.

Toshiba’s new slender tablet has a silver metallic finish and a 10.1-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800.

The device has 16GB of internal memory which can be expanded with a microSD slot.

Other connectivity options include micro HDMI and micro USB 2.0 ports.

The sound quality from the built-in stereo speakers has also been optimised with Toshiba’s Audio Enhancement and Auto Ambient Noise1Equalize technologies.

There are also two cameras – a front facing 2 megapixel camera for video chats and a 5 megapixel rear camera.

Toshiba also unveiled a 7-inch tablet – the AT1S0 – which will also run Android 3.2.

It is basically a smaller version of the AT200 with 16GB and 8GB capacities, dual core processor and weighs just 375g.

On the ultrabook front, Toshiba has taken the covers off the Satellite U840 – a high performance laptop with a 14-inch high definition screen, an Intel Core i5 processor, a hybrid 320GB hard disk drive and 16GB solid state drive.

It is just 19.9mm thick and weighs 1.73kg.
