DJI, a company we know for its amazing drones and cameras, has lent its tech expertise to help launch a new electric mountain bike powered by a new DJI drive system.

The Amflow PL is a new e-bike with the DJI Avinox with 850W of peak power yet still weighing in at an ultralight 19.2kg.

It is a full power eMTB with an ultralight carbon fibre frame that tips the scales at just 2.27kg.

And at the heart of the Amflow PL is the DJI Avinox drive system which combines multiple technologies in both software and hardware design.

The unit has a compound planetary gear set and provides impressive power-to-size ratio with 105Nm torque and a peak power output of 850W.

And all that comes from the DJI drive unit that weighs just 2.52kg.

Inside the unit are high strength polymer gears which can suppress noise during high speed gearbox operation.

There are also several precision sensors on board which, when combined with DJI’s advanced algorithms, offer strong and smooth assistance across a wide range of scenarios and conditions.

The DJI Avinox drive system also includes a special Auto Mode which can adapt the assistance based on the conditions and the riding position.

Once this is activated it allows users to take on a variety of terrain types and gradients without the need to switch modes.

But on challenging trials, Boost Mode can be activated to give the rider 120Nm of torque and 1000W high-power assistance to tackle those steep inclines with ease.

Other modes include Walk Mode with intelligent walk assistance for easy incline travel, Auto Hold to stop rollback on steep inclines and Hill Start Assist to give riders that additional burst of torque to get started on inclines.

The Avinox system’s battery has an ultra-high energy density and weighs 2.87kg.

The included 508W GaN fast charger can charge the battery from 0 to 75 per cent in just 90 minutes.

The Amflow PL’s frame design includes cutting edge geometry for balanced performance and with the agility to help riders take on rugged trails and more technical rides.

The frame is compatible with both 27.5-inch and 29-inch rear wheels and could handle larger and smaller wheels with a simple adjustment of the flip chip so as not to alter the frame’s geometric centre of gravity.

On the suspension side, the rear shocks have a sensitive initial stroke response to filter out any minor vibration and can also prevent bottom outs during continuous high speed impacts or steep descents.

Also onboard is a 2-inch full colour OLED touch screen control display which is integrated into the frame to offer the rider information including real time riding data, estimated range and easy access to the settings.

The bike can also connect to the Avinox app to customise riding modes, set up a password protected anti-theft mode and even access the bike’s real time location.

The Amflow PL electric mountain bike will be available by Q4 2024.

The integration of satellite data within agriculture has undergone huge transformation, reshaping the way modern farmers observe and manage farmland. It all started in the 1970s when Landsat, launched by the United States, delivered groundbreaking higher resolution satellite images of the Earth’s surface. In the contemporary landscape, satellite data holds pervasive significance across numerous agricultural applications.

Chief among these is its pivotal role in crop state monitoring. Satellites furnish precise and timely insights into crop health across all growth stages, empowering farmers to make informed decisions regarding irrigation schedules, optimal fertilization strategies, and much more.

Without satellite data the sphere of so-called precision agriculture would not be complete — a realm where farmers leverage intricate field-specific data to optimize activities and increase their efficiencies. But how does that actually work? How does space data become an instrument in farmers’ hands? Let’s try to answer these questions.

Utilization of Satellite Images in Agriculture

As it becomes much easier to find high resolution satellite imagery, the role satellites play in modern agriculture is increasing exponentially. They offer valuable multispectral data, which allows for a comprehensive analysis of global spectral signatures, serving as a fundamental tool for assessing soil and crop health. This extensive dataset includes not only optical images but also RADAR data, which provide unmatched details on field state. Such information is pure gold to farmers for several reasons.

Firstly, it aids in precise crop monitoring. The rapid revisit times of modern satellites, sometimes as frequent as daily, allow for constant updates on vegetation health. This real-time assessment guides farmers in making timely decisions regarding field operations, allowing them to identify areas affected by diseases or experiencing any type of stress.

Secondly, the information gathered from high-res satellite images feeds into software systems that perform analytical calculations, helping farmers estimate crop production yield. Such insights are necessary in determining crop quality, identifying the optimal time for harvesting, and planning storage strategies.

Additionally, satellite data aids in effective water management. Precise assessment of water levels in both the soil and atmosphere, along with predictive information about rainfall, is vital for farmers. It helps with drought monitoring, irrigation planning, and development of flood prevention strategies.

Moreover, satellite technology with the help of high quality satellite images facilitates in-depth soil analysis, contributing to identifying soil mineral compositions and understanding their spatial distribution. This information helps farmers optimize crop growth by determining suitable areas for farming and identifying spots that require specific nutrients.

A big part in the area of remotely accessing crop and soil health is played by vegetation indices — calculated values that hold precious information on field state through time.

Vegetation Indices in Agriculture

Indices are the tools that provide farmers with an opportunity to gain insights crucial for effective crop management while being far away from the actual field. However, their role extends beyond raw data — they offer a compass guiding decisions toward optimal practices, sustainability, and bigger yields.

Offering a full set of information on crop health, growth patterns, and productivity, and more, indices serve as beacons highlighting the best scenarios of improving agricultural outcomes. Assessing crop yield potential stands as one of their primary utilities. Continuous monitoring of crop growth aids in estimating potential results, allowing farmers to adapt management practices in tandem with these projections. For instance, when NDVI values indicate suboptimal crop health, farmers can respond by adjusting irrigation or introducing fertilizers.

Beyond yield forecasting, indices wield influence in strategic planting and harvesting determinations. Monitoring crop growth across varied areas enables farmers to pinpoint optimal planting dates and the exact window for harvest. This precision minimizes waste and maximizes yield by ensuring crops are harvested at their peak state.

Furthermore, indices can help monitor the impact of environmental stressors on plants. From drought detection through EVI values to pest and disease monitoring using NDVI, these insights inform proactive decisions in pest and disease management, curbing losses and fortifying yields.

Chief among the indices is the already mentioned NDVI, serving as a standard measure for vegetation health. However, each index possesses unique characteristics tailored to specific agricultural contexts, necessitating a historical perspective on green biomass for accurate assessments.

For instance, the EVI optimizes NDVI by mitigating constraints like soil and atmospheric interferences, while RENDVI excels in precision by detecting subtle changes in vegetation conditions through modified wavelength inclusions. Similarly, the GNDVI hones in on chlorophyll content, whereas the MSI is a tracker for water scarcity stress, and the LAI estimates leaf area to predict plant growth and yield.

These indices, diverse in their applications and nuanced in their readings, collectively empower farmers with a suite of tools to navigate the complexities of crop management, fostering sustainable and productive agricultural practices.

In the ever-evolving landscape of agriculture, the synergy between satellite imagery and vegetation indices is a force that cannot be overlooked. High-resolution satellite imagery backed up by vegetation indices data grants farmers unprecedented access to invaluable insights, once deemed inaccessible or cost-prohibitive. And the current availability of high-resolution satellite imagery for free has significantly shortened and democratized the growers’ road to information, regardless of their farm size or resources. This dynamic duo equips agronomists with the tools needed to make informed decisions, optimize crop management practices, and ensure resilience against different threats. As we are still on a track where technology continues to intertwine with agriculture, the utilization of these technologies continues to offer more and more possibilities for sustainable, efficient, and productive farming.

Leading drone brand DJI has unveiled the DJI Air 3 – the latest drone in the Air family that offers dual primary cameras to take your aerial photography to new heights.

Onboard the DJI Air 3 is a wide-angle camera and a 3x medium telephoto camera which can produce 48-megapixel images and 4K HDR videos at 60fps.

“The DJI Air 3 is the first drone of our Air Series which offers professional features like dual primary cameras and omnidirectional obstacle sensing and at the same time retaining its lightweight capabilities with a weight of just 720g for more freedom and flexibility,” said Ferdinand Wolf, Creative Director at DJI.

“The drone is the perfect all-rounder for your outdoor adventures and offers you a more diverse camera language.”

Under the camera system’s hood is 1/1.3-inch CMOS wide-angle camera and 1/1.3-inch CMOS 3x medium tele camera.

The cameras have the same size sensors but offer different focal lengths to offer the pilot even more variety with their photography.

The wide-angle camera lets you capture wide, sweeping landscapes which is the equivalent of a 24mm lens and an F1.7 aperture.

The 3x Tele medium camera is similar to 70mm and a F2.8 aperture, and it can achieve up to 3x optical zoom.

The wide-angle FOV allows a much broader capture while the 3x medium tele lets you boldly focus on your subject.

On the video side the DJI Air 3 can output 4K/60fps HDR and up to 4K/100fps max. video specification without FOV cropping.

The new DJI Air 3 is also the first of the Air Series to support 2.7K vertical video (9:16).

Another first for the DJI Air 3 is omnidirectional obstacle sensing so it can detect and help you avoid obstacles in every direction.

If an obstacle is detected the drone can actively avoid and bypass the trouble.

This gives beginners even more peace of mind as they take to the skies for the first time.

The ActiveTrack function can even allow pilots to fly hands-free and the Advanced RTH (return to home) for a worry-free landing.

The DJI AIR 3 has a 48 per cent improvement in maximum flight time of up to 46 minutes.

There is also a new battery charging hub which can transfer power from other batteries to the battery with the highest charge.

OTHER INTELLIGENT FEATURES

FocusTrack for both cameras: Consisting of Spotlight 2.0, ActiveTrack 5.0 and Point of Interest 3.0.

FocusTrack keeps the subject in the centre of the frame. When using the 3x medium tele camera, a unique sense of spatial compression will be generated to highlight the pilot or any other person as the subject in terrific status.

QuickShots: Empowers the DJI Air 3 to perform creative camera movements like Rocket, Dronie, Circle, Helix, Boomerang, and Asteroid.

2.7K Vertical Shooting: The DJI Air 3 supports dual-camera 2.7K vertical video shooting. The wide-angle camera can include rich image information, while the 3x medium tele camera can portrait the pilot or others as the subject, facilitating more eye-catching vertical aerial photography. The 2.7K vertical shot output can be shared immediately on social media without post-cropping.

MasterShots: Allows the DJI Air 3 to automatically perform diverse camera movements, shoot multiple clips, edit the clips, and add music to generate fast and effortless cinematic footage

Night Mode: Thanks to the noise reduction algorithm, the DJI Air 3 can capture up to 4K/30fps clean footage in low-light environments.

Hyperlapse: Select from four sub-modes of Free, Circle, Course Lock, and Waypoint to shoot up to 4K horizontal or 2.7K vertical timelapse footage.

Slow Motion: Select 4K/100fps or 1080p/100fps to directly record a 4x slow-motion video.

SmartPhoto 3.0: In single shot mode, the DJI Air 3 uses SmartPhoto 3.0 by default, which can automatically select among HDR, hyperlight, and scene recognition according to the scenario for better imaging results. In HDR DNG format, the camera can record a larger dynamic range with built-in contrast enhancement. The image file can achieve JPG-level quality in post-editing software, reducing the difficulty of post-production.

QuickTransfer: Quickly download photos and videos from the aircraft to your smartphone through a wireless connection, saving time and effort.

Waypoint Flight: This feature is available on the Air Series for the first time. The user can plan flight routes and shooting actions for the DJI Air 3 in advance to achieve difficult camera movements like one-takes. Pilots can also save a flight route to repeat the same mission precisely later, making it easy to create long-duration timelapse videos that capture transitions such as day to night or season to season.

DJI has just unveiled the flagship Mavic 3 Pro drone with an all-new triple camera system that will allow aerial photographers to unleash their creativity.

The DJI Mavic 3 pro has the Mavic’s signature Hasselblad camera along with two tele cameras all with different focal lengths to offer photographers even more creative choices.

“At DJI we are constantly evolving our products to help capture fascinating scenery and explore visual storytelling through both video and stills,” said Ferdinand Wolf, Creative Director at DJI.

“The Mavic 3 Pro’s triple camera combination gives users the ability to switch between shot composition with just one tap, allowing content creators a wider variety of shots in less time than ever before.

“We can’t wait to see the end result of how people use the drone to alter the viewers’ perception of space and distance.”

The drone’s triple camera system offers 24mm, 70mm and 166mm focal lengths which allows for wide angle shots, medium tele and focusing in on a particular area, object or person.

The medium tele camera (70mm format equivalent) can be used in a variety of scenarios from framing buildings to cars in commercial shoots.

With the 1/1.3-inch CMOS Sensor and 3x optical zoom it is capable of 48MP/12MP photos and 4K 60fps video with support for the new D-log M.

DJI has unveiled the sleek Inspire 3 professional drone for aerial cinematographers which has an all-new design, improved aerodynamics and the ability to shoot 8K video.

The Inspire all-in-one cinematic-grade aerial filming system has already been used on some of the world’s biggest films and the Inspire 3 takes things to another level.

It’s been more than six years since the release of the Inspire 2 so this upgrade has been highly anticipated.

“The Inspire 3 is the professional-level aerial platform all filmmakers have been waiting for,” said Ferdinand Wolf, Creative Director at DJI.

“It empowers users to fully maximize the potential of any shot as they can record in cinematic-grade image quality previously only available with large and clunky camera systems.

“We are looking forward to seeing how the Inspire 3 will push aerial cinematography to a completely new level.”

The Inspire 3 has been completely redesigned provides filmmakers with a lightweight and portable form factor with the streamlined body integrating FPV (first person view) camera, visual sensors, positioning antennas and storage card slots.

With the landing gear lowered the Inspire 3 can handle 80-degree upward angle shooting giving cinematographers even more options.

But, of course, when the landing gear is up, you have a 360-degree unobstructed view with the included Zenmuse X9-8K Air Gimbal Camera which can shoot 8K/75fps Apple ProRes RAW video and 4K/120fps ProRes RAW.

Onboard the Inspire 3 is advanced positioning technology so cinematographers can plan their shooting routes more accurately and save production time.

The new Waypoint Pro function makes it possible to set flight routes for shot planning.

Repeatable Routes is a Waypoint Pro feature so pilots can precisely fly the same route and remember settings like speed, altitude, gimbal angle and camera settings.

This means filmmakers can perform difficult single shots and fly the same location at different times of the day for long timelapses and transitions.

3D Dolly is a feature that makes it possible for the Inspire 3 to imitate cranes, cable cams and a dolly without the limits of those tools.

With this feature you can create an aerial motion path where the pilot can move backwards and forwards along that path at different speeds and different gimbal settings.

On the safety side the Inspire 3 has numerous sensors that can detect obstacles in all directions.

And when this active avoidance is switched off, the drone will still display the distance from an obstacle on the navigation display.

The Inspire 3 comes with the DJI RC Plus which has a 7-inch 1200 nit high-brightness display so it’s still easy to see in direct sunlight and is powered by a hot-swappable battery.

Speaking of batteries, the Inspire 3 runs on TB51 dual batteries which offer up to 28 minutes of flying time.

The Inspire 3 can reach speeds of up to 94km/h and has an ascent/descent speed of 8m/sec and a dive speed of 10m/sec.

The Inspire 3 comes in a trolley case with an extendable handle and two side handles and four 360-degree movement wheels.

So much does all this cost? The DJI Inspire 3 drone comes with a controller, Zenmuse X9-8K camera, six batteries and other accessories. It is priced at $20,469.

Leading drone manufacturer DJI is poised to launch its latest professional drone – the Inspire 3 – more than six years after the previous model was announced.

DJI released a global premier announcement which reads “Inspiration Arrives” with a silhouette of an Inspire drone.

The launch will be live streamed at 11pm (AEST) on April 13.

The Inspire drones have a detachable and upgradeable camera system and landing gear that rises on take-off to give the camera a clear 360-degree view.

The previous model – the DJI Inspire 2 – was released in November 2016 so it’s been a long time coming for professional users who use this type of drone for professional shoots and feature films.

DJI Inspire 2 with Zenmuse X7 detachable camera system

Rumours suggest the new Inspire drone will be fitted with the Zenmuse X9 full-frame camera which is compatible with Lumix lenses and that will be able to record 8K video.

The Inspire 2 was capable of speeds up to 94km/h and can accelerate from 0-80km/h in less than five seconds.

We’re expecting the Inspire 3, like the Inspire 2, to have two onboard batteries for a flight time of up to 30 minutes.

It appears the Inspire 3 will also come with large foldable propellors.

All will be revealed on April 13 at 11pm (AEST).

DJI has introduced the Mini 2 SE, a new lightweight and more affordable camera drone that fits in the palm of your hand but that can still capture stunning pictures and videos.

The DJI Mini 2 SE weighs less than 249g which means it’s exempt from drone regulations in many parts of the world and doesn’t need to be registered.

And being under 250g, means you can safely fly the drone within the 5.5km range of a controlled airspace according to CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority).

The drone folds down to a size smaller than the palm of your hand so there’s no stopping you taking it with you everywhere you go.

The DJI Mini 2 SE has a 1/2.3-inch CMOS camera sensor which can capture video at 2.7K and shoot 12-megapixel photos.

The drone can also hover steadily even in high winds so your pictures and videos remain clear and stable.

Also on board is the DJI O2 transmission technology which offers a maximum video transmission range of 10 kilometres which includes anti interference capabilities.

The new DJI drone also incorporates features like intuitive flight controls including one-tap take-off and landing, stable hovering and the handy Return to Home feature.

Users can also tap into to the QuickShots which are stunning preset and automated modes to capture your surroundings.

The DJI Mini 2 SE offers a 31-minute maximum flight time on a single battery.

The DJI Mini 2 SE is priced at $599 and comes with the RC-N1 one remote controller and cables to connect your smartphone to the remote, one Intelligent Flight Battery, one spare set of propellers, a gimbal protector and a data cable.

For $799, customers can buy the DJI Mini 2 SE Fly More Combo which includes two more Intelligent Flight Batteries and two extra sets of spare propellers, a two-way charging hub, shoulder bag and propeller holder.

DJI has just released the DJI Mini 3 – a more affordable sub-250g camera drone – which is small and light enough to be exempt from most drone regulations around the world.

Weighing just 249g, the DJI Mini 3 can (according to CASA – the Civil Aviation and Safety Authority) be flown within 5.5km of a controlled airspace like an airport.

And because it weighs less than 250g, the DJI Mini 3 drone doesn’t have to be registered.

There are similar regulations and policies in other parts of the world so you can legally fly without registration.

The DJI Mini 3, a cheaper version of the DJI Mini 3 Pro released earlier this year, can film 4K HDR video and capture stunning photos up to 48-megapixel with True Vertical Shooting so your content is ready to share on social media.

“DJI Mini 3 arrives as a welcome addition to our growing compact drone lineup,” said Ferdinand Wolf, Creative Director at DJI.

“It follows in the footsteps of its sibling, Mini 3 Pro, and offers many of the same high-performance features as a worthy alternative option.

“We created Mini 3 to invite even more new users to take off for the first time, and we can’t wait to see the moments they create with it.”

The DJI Mini 3 fits in the palm of your hand when folded which makes it even easier to take on your next trip and next adventure.

You can capture 4K at up 30 frames per second in HDR (high dynamic range) so you’re getting true-to-life colours day and night.

The 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor and f/1.7 aperture offers greater image resolution, sharper depth of field and lower image noise even in low lighting and high contrast.

The onboard 4-in-1 pixel technology can create images between 12-megapixel and 48-megapixel in resolution.

True Vertical Shooting rotates the camera 90-degrees to shoot videos and images that are perfect to share on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

DJI Mini 3 includes an Intelligent Flight Battery that can offer up to 38 minutes of flight time while Intelligent Flight Battery Plus can extend that to up to 51 minutes.

Your content can look pretty slick with Quickshots – pre-programmed flight and filming paths to take in your beautiful surroundings.

These include:

– Dronie: Aircraft flies back and up with the camera locked on the subject.

– Helix: Aircraft flies up and spirals around the subject.

– Rocket: Aircraft flies up with the camera facing down.

– Circle: Aircraft circles around the subject.

– Boomerang: Aircraft flies around the subject in an oval path, ascending as it flies away and descending as it returns.

And like the other DJI drones there are many intelligent functions that make it easier for first time pilots to take to the air including Auto Takeoff, return to home (RTH) which will bring drone automatically to its launch point.

RTH also works when the signal is lost or if the battery is running low.

Additional Features

– 180°, Wide, and Sphere panorama, with Sphere Panorama Viewer 2.0 in the DJI Fly app offering a 720° view to drag and zoom a Sphere panorama.

– QuickTransfer with max download speed of 25 MB/s

– Supports large-angle tilt to introduce more creative possibilities.

– Digital zoom at 2x in 4K/30fps, 4x in 1080p, and 2x in 12MP photo

Price and Availability

DJI Mini 3 is available in five configurations:

DJI Mini 3 (Drone Only) does not include a remote controller or charger and is ideal for owners of existing DJI drones – $699.

– DJI Mini 3 includes the DJI RC-N1 Remote Controller – $829.

DJI has released the Mavic 3 Classic, a more affordable version of the popular drone which still boasts an onboard Hasselblad camera and impressive flight performance.

Now creators who purchased the Mavic 3 Classic can enjoy the same 4/3 CMOS 20-megapixel camera and 46-minute maximum flight time as the original Mavic 3 drone which included an additional telephoto lens.

The DJI Mavic 3 Classic also works with existing remotes like the DJI RC Pro, DJI RC and DJI RC-N1 which makes it even easier and affordable for drone pilots to move up to what’s considered one of the best flying cameras on the market.

“The Mavic 3 series has always set the standard for what a drone can do, from the original Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Cine that transformed aerial photography and cinematography, through the Mavic 3 Enterprise and Mavic 3 Thermal platforms for professional work,” said Ferdinand Wolf, Creative Director at DJI.

“Now, DJI is moving forward to give more creators access to the photographic excellence and operational reliability that are the hallmarks of the Mavic 3 Series. With the launch of Mavic 3 Classic, we hope to see even more creators putting our top-of-the-line tools to work and pushing their creativity past their old limits.”

Onboard the Mavic 3 Classic is the 4/3 CMOS Hasselblad camera which can capture up to 5.1K at 50fps, 4K at 60fps and 1080p 60fps using H.264 and H.265 encoders.

And for slo-mo, Mavic 3 Classic captures video at 4K at 120fps and 1080p at 200fps.

When shooting with the 20-megapixel sensor images are processed in 12-bit RAW and 10-bit D-log when shooting video.

This ensures the camera can accurately capture true and vivid colours and detail rich shadows.

Also on board is the Hasselblad natural colour solution which can produce photos and videos with accurate colours and its HLG system for high dynamic range photography can generate footage that doesn’t require colour adjustment in post-production.

On the flying side, the DJI Mavic 3 Classic can fly for up to 46 minutes on a single charge and uses the same batteries as the rest of the Mavic 3 Series.

Pilots can also take advantage of the drones intelligent algorithms that can track subjects, frame images and fly in cinematic flight patterns.

ActiveTrack 5.0 employs multiple vision sensors to spot subjects and lock them in the frame while moving the drone and camera smoothly to create pro level videos.

And with Master Shots, shooting and editing functions are automated to make the whole process even simpler for new pilots.

QuickShots also put several shooting modes at your fingertips so you can capture some truly spectacular sequences.

A new feature is Cruise Control which means pilots can set a constant flight speed for their drone so they can focus on the photography side and minimise any camera shakes usually associated with manual speed control.

And once Mavic 3 Classic has landed, you can turn RAW imagery into shareable content easier than ever with high-speed quick transfer which lets you download content directly from the drone to your mobile device over Wi-Fi 6 at speeds of up to 80MB per second without the need to connect to the remote control.

The DJI Mavic 3 Classic is available for purchase today from store.dji.com and authorized retail partners in three purchase configurations:

– Mavic 3 Classic (Drone Only) does not include a remote controller or charger and is ideal for owners of existing DJI drones who are ready to move up to the top-of-the line camera performance of Mavic 3. It is compatible with any existing DJI RC-N1, DJI RC or DJI RC Pro controller. It is available for the retail price of $2,299.

– Mavic 3 Classic includes a charger and the DJI RC-N1 remote controller. It is available for the retail price of $2,399.

– Mavic 3 Classic (DJI RC) includes a charger and the DJI RC remote controller. It is available for the retail price of $2,599.

– Mavic 3 Classic Fly More Kit (Shoulder Bag) includes two Intelligent Flight Batteries, a Battery Charging Hub (100W), a 65W Car Charger, a Shoulder Bag and propellers. It is available for the retail price of $799.

Leading drone maker DJI has launched a new craft – the DJI Avata – that offers stunning speed and agility and an immersive first-person view (FPV) flying experience.

The DJI Avata has a lean, stripped-down design that’s unlike a traditional drone while incorporating aerodynamic propellor guards for added safety.

The drone is coupled with the new DJI Goggles 2 and DJI Motion Controller to offer pilots a fresh new way to fly.

“DJI Avata was built to awaken a desire to fly in everyone, with immersive flight technology that allows anyone to explore the almost out-of-body experience of FPV flight,” said Ferdinand Wolf, Creative Director at DJI.

“DJI Avata is breathtaking to fly for even a novice pilot and includes enhanced safety features that give anyone the freedom to try creative aerial moves.

“Paired with the DJI Goggles 2 and the DJI Motion Controller, DJI Avata seems to ride with the wind.

“Whether you fly for the fun of it, to make great clips for social media, or to dazzle viewers in the production studio, DJI Avata will show you why its engrossing flight experience pulls you into a new world of soaring possibilities.”

Weighing in at 410g, the DJI Avata is built for speed. The drone is so paired back – the bulk of the chassis is made up of the battery.

DJI Avata can fly and hover like a regular drone, but it offers incredible acceleration, can swiftly manoeuvre in tight spaces and can stop almost instantly.

If the DJI Avata ends up on the ground upside down, a new Turtle Mode can flip it over the right way again and take off again.

Another safety feature is Emergency Brake and Hover and Return to Home which can bring the drone back to its take off point at the press of a button.

Also onboard is a stabilized camera which includes a 48-megapixel camera that’s capable of shooting 4K video at 60 frames per second and 2.7K/50/60/100/120fps.

The DJI Avata will run for up to 18 minutes on a full battery.

When paired with the DJI Goggles 2 you can enjoy a thrilling first person flying experience.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority says pilots must always have visual line of sight of a drone – that means seeing the drone with your own eyes rather than through goggles.

If the pilot wears the goggles, they are unable to clearly see what’s around them and their situational awareness which may result in them colliding with trees, people, birds and other aircraft.

A person not in control of the drone can enjoy the first-person view wearing the goggles.

The DJI Avata can be flown with DJI Motion Controller which allows the pilot to use hand movements to control the drone.

It can also be flown with a regular controller through the DJI Fly app.

The DJI Avata is available now from store.dji.com and retail partners.

The standalone version of DJI Avata is priced at $799 without a remote controller, motion controller, or goggles.

This is aimed at users who already available compatible goggles and controllers released with the DJI FPV last year.

The DJI Avata Pro-View Combo is $1,989 and includes the DJI Avata, DJI Goggles 2 and the DJI Motion Controller.

The DJI Avata Fly Smart Combo is priced at retails $1,629 and includes DJI Avata, the DJI FPV Goggles V2 and the DJI Motion Controller.

The DJI Avata Fly More Kit is $339 and includes two DJI Avata Intelligent Flight Batteries and one DJI Avata Battery Charging Hub.

Stay tuned for a full review of the DJI Avata FPV drone in the coming days.

Snapchat is getting creative with ways for you to capture interesting images to share on the platform with the announcement of the Pixy – a flying camera to literally take your photography to new heights.

The Pixy was announced at the annual Snap Partner Summit which demonstrated how new features could be deployed on the social media platform.

The pocket-size device is actually a mini drone that takes your favourite parts of the Snapchat camera and allows you to take images and videos at an all-new angle.

And there’s no need to worry about a controller – it flies on its own.

Simply turn it on and it will float a few feet above you to capture both photos and videos.

And when you’re done simply stick out your arm and it will land right into the palm of your hand.

But the bad news for Australians is it will only be available in the US and France at this time. That may change in the future depending on demand.

Coles has become Australia’s first major supermarket to take to the air and offer drone delivery so their customers can receive popular grocery items faster and easier.

Coles has partnered with on-demand drone delivery company Wing and Canberra residents will be the first to trial the new service to receive their deliveries within minutes.

This follows the successful partnership between Wing and KFC for food delivery in the Queensland town of Logan.

Canberra customers can order their groceries via the Wing app.

There will be more than 250 items available to order using the drone service including bread, fresh produce, snacks, convenience meals, health care items, kitchen essentials and toilet paper.

The Wing drones are custom designed for package delivery and, on arrival, will hover above the destination and slowly lower the package to the ground.

They can carry packages weighing up to 1.5kg at speeds or more than 110km/h.

Coles chief executive e-commerce Ben Hassing says this new delivery method will play into Coles goal to become more sustainable by reducing the number of trucks on the road.

“We are passionate about finding innovative ways to help our customers to shop with us and we aim to deliver anytime, anywhere, anyhow shopping,” Mr Hassing said.

“By partnering with Wing, we’re able to offer our online customers another convenient option to purchase the Coles items they know and love and get them delivered straight to their door.”

Simon Rossi, General Manager, Wing, Australia, said, “We’re delighted to be teaming up with Coles, one of Australia’s leading retailers, to expand their delivery options for customers by taking to the skies of Canberra.

“Whether you’ve run out of milk and eggs for breakfast, forgotten to pick up a loaf of bread for school lunches, or are just after a fresh ‘grab and go’ snack, customers in our delivery service area in Canberra can now get those urgent items they need in a hurry, delivered by drone.

“In the last year we’ve seen a significant increase in use of our on-demand drone delivery service, with many customers finding the service especially useful as they stayed home and relied on our contactless delivery service to deliver the items they needed.

“Wing made more than 100,000 deliveries in Australia in 2021, and strong demand for drone delivery has continued in 2022. Wing has already made more than 30,000 deliveries in Australia this year.”

If you get a hankering for some KFC, there’s a new delivery service that will get your food to you by drone.

Wing, Australia’s first on-demand drone delivery service, have teamed up with Kentucky Fried Chicken to provide the service to deliver hot and fresh menu items to the homes and businesses of Logan in Queensland.

This is a proof-of-concept service that will use the southeast Queensland town and, in particular, Kingston, Logan Central, Slacks Creek, Underwood, and Woodridge.

The service will eventually expand to include other nearby locations.

So if you live in one of these areas and craving a Zinger burger, some chicken Nuggets and some original recipe chicken, you simply download the Wing delivery app from the App Store or Google Play Store, choose what you want to order, enter your address and submit it.

KFC will then freshly prepare your food at the Wing delivery site and deliver it to you within minutes by drone at no extra charge.

Up until now, KFC fans have been enjoying traditional ground delivery methods.

In fact, 46 per cent of KFC restaurants globally offer delivery.

Wing’s drones are custom designed to deliver packages safely and quickly.

Once an order is submitted, the drone flies to pick up the package and then climbs to a safe flying altitude and travels to the destination.

Once it arrives, the drone slows down and hovers before descending to a height of seven metres before lowering the package to the ground on a tether which automatically releases the package in the desired delivery area.

The drone does not actually land but rather climbs back to cruising height and returns to the delivery facility.

The wing drone has a wingspan of 1.3 metres and weighs about 5kg and can carry packages up to 1.5kg at speeds of more than 110km/h.

To date, the fastest Wing delivery has been in two minutes and 47 seconds.

Wing is operating in Australia, Finland and the US.

This new partnership between KFC and Wing will expand that delivery offering and provide an all-new option for customers to have their favourite meals delivered by air.

“We’re excited to be teaming up with KFC, to expand their delivery options for customers by taking its customer favourites to new heights, through the skies of Logan, Queensland — the drone delivery capital of the world,” Dave Ojiako-Pettit, Wing’s City Manager, Queensland, said.

“We’ve seen a significant increase in use of our on-demand drone delivery service in Southeast Queensland.

“Wing made more than 100,000 deliveries to the Logan community in 2021, with many customers finding on-demand drone delivery especially useful as they stayed home and relied on our contactless service to deliver the things they needed.

Kristi Woolrych, CMO KFC Australia said: “We’re always looking for ways to enhance the customer experience, so we’re thrilled to be teaming up with Wing to provide the Logan community this Aussie first.

“Given the last 18 months, Australians have relied on delivery more and more, so it’s great to be making life easier for fans who want to get their hands on KFC in a flash.

“You know the future truly is here when you can get hot, fresh Kentucky Fried Chicken delivered by a drone from the click of a few buttons.”

Drone delivery is something we are going to see more of in the near future.

Drones, and the systems behind them, are getting smarter and more intuitive and they will become a trusted delivery method in more areas around the world, including densely populated areas.

In the smart cities of the future, there will be designated flight paths for drones to deliver a variety of goods from food, groceries, medicine and other small items.

Along this path, there will also be charging stations for the drones to recharge, if necessary, on their way to their destination.
