Over Boot Slippers

You’ve spent the morning outside in the garden and you’re ready to take a quick break before moving onto your next project. Instead of using all of your energy to pull off your outdoor boots and footwear, why not slip on a pair of over-boot slippers? These are the ideal solution if you need to quickly step inside your house and you don’t want to get your kitchen or patio covered in mud. As soon as you start using them, you’ll realize why they’re so popular!

 Garden Clock and Thermometer

When you’re really getting into your gardening work time can quickly pass you by without even realizing. During your gardening session you probably don’t want to wear your fancy watch or take your mobile phone outside just in case it gets ruined in the mud, so why not invest in a handy garden clock? This will prevent you from losing track of time and many garden clocks also feature handy thermometers too! Keeping track of the temperature outside will help you to grow your plants in the smoothest and most effective way.

In environments where energy efficiency is important power factor correction is key to saving money and cutting down on wasted energy. In this featured post, we will explore the importance of power factor correction and how it can improve efficiency and lower costs for businesses.

Exploring the Concept of the Power Factor

The power factor relates to how electrical energy is used in a system by comparing real power (measured in kW ) to apparent power (measured in kVA). A higher power factor means better energy usage, while a lower one indicates wastage due to devices, like induction motors, that draw reactive power and, therefore, need power factor correction.

The Importance of Power Factor Correction

Numerous major industries depend on motors and other machinery that function with inductive loads, leading to a reduced power factor, which increases electricity costs due to reduced energy conversion efficiency; yet, with the implementation of power factor correction solutions with the help of providers like Lakewood, businesses can effectively address these challenges.

How Exactly Does Power Factor Correction Operate?

Improving power factor includes setting up equipment like capacitors to counterbalance reactive loads and synchronise the current waveform with the voltage waveform to enhance power efficiency and optimise electricity usage.

Advantages of Correcting Power Factor

Energy efficiency has been on the rise lately, showing a trend in conserving energy resources effectively. Optimising power factor correction enhances energy efficiency and minimises wastage resulting from power factors; this leads to reduced dependence on excessive electricity usage by businesses and promotes eco-friendly energy practices.

1. Reduced Costs

Having a power factor could result in facing significant fines from utility providers because of the inefficient utilisation of energy supplied to you. Power factor correction helps avoid these penalties by getting rid of reactive power, thus enabling a reduction in the overall kilowatt demand fees on your electricity bills.

2. Enhanced Performance of Equipment

Inductive loads can have an effect on how equipment functions by requiring more current to make up for power factor issues. Producing a correction in the power factor can help create settings for equipment to operate smoothly and last longer.

Low power factors can strain transformers, electrical panels, and distribution systems. Power factor correction aids in boosting system capacity by reducing unnecessary current loads and ensuring equipment operates more smoothly.

3. Reduced Voltage Losses

Insufficient power factors can result in voltage reductions across the grid that affect operations and lead to malfunctions in delicate equipment within industrial settings. Power factor adjustment helps manage voltage variations and maintains a consistent power supply within the industrial facility.

Carrying out Power Factor Correction

To effectively carry out power factor correction measures in a business setting, an energy assessment is required to pinpoint areas that require enhancement or adjustment. Consultation with energy management professionals is key to determining the precise steps needed to rectify power factor issues and installing the required equipment while monitoring the ongoing progress of efficiency enhancements.

Challenges Encountered in the Realm of Power Factor Correction

Power factor correction comes with advantages but also presents certain hurdles that businesses must overcome for the successful implementation of sustainable solutions like greenhouse gas in managing their power usage efficiently and effectively. Here are two typical challenges that businesses may encounter when dealing with power factor correction:

1. Reactive Power Variations

Reactive power in settings can vary due to inductive loads and changing operational conditions, which can affect the power factor stability over time, necessitating regular monitoring and adjustments for optimal power correction systems performance.

2. Compatibility Issues with Existing Systems

Some electrical systems might have problems when trying to add power factor correction devices due to compatibility issues that could arise. Businesses should take into account factors like voltage levels and system capacity as well as harmonics before choosing the right solutions for this issue. Getting guidance from experts while implementing these solutions can effectively tackle these challenges related to compatibility.

Summary

Implementing power factor correction is crucial for businesses looking to boost energy efficiency and cut down on electricity expenses. In settings like industries and manufacturing organisations, reduced fines and improved electricity system performance can benefit them and contribute to sustainable energy practices. Integrating power factor correction is both a smart financial move and showcases companies’ responsible resource management.

They’re the hidden batteries that power our car keys, garage door openers, calculators, toys, games and more, but those coin batteries are also a choking hazard, and Energizer’s 3-in-1 Child Shield system should make these batteries less attractive for kids to potentially swallow.

The new 3-in-1 Child Shield safety system was introduced in Australia last month and will start being seen on their 2016, 2025 and 2032 Lithium coin batteries.

The 3-in-1 Child Shield safety system starts with Child-Resistant packaging which makes it difficult for kids to access the batteries in the first place.

There’s also a non-toxic bitter coating on the batteries, so that if they do manage to get their hands on them, they taste very unattractive to kids the moment they put it in their mouth.

Lastly, Energizer has introduced a Colour Alert on the batteries. The Colour Alert is actually a non-toxic food grade dye that activates on contact with saliva, visibly dying the mouth blue in just a few seconds with a visible indicator that lets caregivers know so they can seek medical attention faster, as needed.

Speaking about the new 3-in-1 Child Shield safety system, Energizer’s Cari Curtis, Sr. Director Global Marketing states,

We continue to push the boundaries of the industry by offering the most comprehensive safety system in the lithium coin cell battery market. The result of this unwavering commitment has resulted in a product that not only enhances child safety, but also delivers exceptional, long-lasting performance and compatibility with all devices”.

You’ll find the new lithium coin battery range with the 3-in-1 Child Shield system starting from $13 RRP  in leading supermarkets now.

After announcing a new series of Pixel 9 phones including the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Google has also unveiled their latest wearables with the Pixel Watch 3 announced in two sizes, alongside the new Pixel Buds Pro 2 which brings back a small wing for better positioning, and a new custom chipset for AI.

The Pixel Watch 3 will be on sale starting September 10 while the Pixel Buds Pro 2 will go on-sale on September 26.

Pixel Watch 3

After much feedback from the public, Google has announced the Pixel Watch 3 in two sizes, a smaller 41mm size similar to the last two, as well as a new, larger 45mm option.

The Pixel Watch 3 is the first watch to use Google’s Actua Display tech, which can ramp up to an impressive 2,000 nits peak brightness for better viewing in direct sunlight, as well as Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) able to go as low as 1Hz, saving power.

The new Pixel Watch 3 display has 16% smaller bezels, while the new 45mm size offers 40% more screen real-estate.

The smaller Pixel Watch 3 will include a 306mAh battery, while the larger model will use a 420mAh battery. Google is telling us that both watches will last a full 24 hours when using the Always-On Display, with a battery saver mode that can eke out 36 hours of life from just 15% power, which Google says won’t compromise ‘health, fitness or safety capabilities.”

The new Pixel Watch 3 will use the same charger as the Pixel Watch 2, with the 41mm model able to charge 20% faster.

The Pixel Watch 3 will still track fitness stats including Heart Rhythm, SP02 stats, Stress levels and more, with a comprehensive dashboard offering a health score based on your results, including your rest.

Google is also bringing a UltrawideBand Chip to the Pixel Watch 3, allowing you to quickly unlock your Pixel phone using presence detection.

For fitness tracking, the Pixel Watch 3 already offers over 40 different exercise modes, however this year there’s a focus on running. Google will utilise Fitbit’s health tracking nouse to offer a ‘comprehensive running experience’ which includes an AI Plan Builder and Running Dashboard, which Google says will help plan, perform and progress your running.

Google says the Watch 3 will also be more compatible with other devices including gym equipment to help track your workouts more accurately.

The Pixel Watch 3 will launch with WearOS 5.0, first launched a few weeks ago on the Galaxy Watch 7.
Wear OS 5 brings a few improvements including offline Google Maps, as well as easier access to your media controls even in your workout screen, and there’s also a Google TV remote built-in to make everything smoother there.
Google says Wear OS 5 also includes call assist, aiding in spam detection and managing calls on hold – and for the first time, Google is bringing their Pixel Recorder app to your wrist, offering accurate recording and transcriptions right on your wrist.

Owners of the Nest Doorbell will also be able to see who’s at the door on their wrist.

The Pixel Watch 3 will be on sale starting September 10 in both 41mm and 45mm sizes.

Pixel Watch 3 – 41mm Pixel Watch 3 – 45mm
Wifi $579 $699
LTE $749 $839

Google will be offering the 41mm and 45mm Pixel Watch 3 in Matte Black Aluminium Case with an Obsidian Active Band and Polished Silver Aluminium Case with a Porcelain Active Band.

There will also be size exclusive combinations including a Matte Hazel Aluminium Case with a Hazel Active Band for the 45mm, while the 41mm will see additional options including Champagne Gold Aluminium Case with a Hazel Active Band as well as Polished Silver Aluminium Case with a Rose Quartz Active Band.

You will also be able to check out a full range of accessories to style the watch to your personal taste.

Pixel Buds Pro 2

It’s been two years since Google launched the Pixel Buds Pro, but the follow up is here with the Pixel Buds Pro 2 announced with a custom Tensor A1 chip offering improved AI including Gemini in your ear.

The Pixel Buds Pro 2 are 27% smaller and 24% lighter than the original Buds Pro, but they’ll also be more secure in your ear, with Google bringing back a small stabiliser fin with twist to adjust.

The new Tensor A1 silicon is Google’s first attempt at bringing Tensor beyond their phone and tablet eco-system. The custom silicon allows Google to offer faster audio processing, improved Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and offering a ‘better sound stage’.

The ANC has been improved with minimal distortion using a sine-wave cancellation that can activate at three million times per second, with the Silent Seal upgraded to 2.0 to improve occlusion.

The big news for Google is the inclusion of Gemini on the Pixel Buds Pro 2, with the new “Gemini Live” experience offering a conversational AI assistant.  Like the ‘Hey/Ok Google’ inclusion on the original buds which would summon Google Assistant, you can talk to Gemini without taking your phone from your pocket.

Google says the Gemini Live service will require a Google One subscription, which you get a 12 month subscription to the 2TB Google One AI plan – normally worth $124.99 per month – included with the Pixel 9 Pro model phones.
Google says you’ll get Conversation Detection and Clear Calling on the Pixel Buds Pro 2, and you’ll also be able to find the Buds if you lose them with the Pixel Buds Pro 2 included in Google’s Find My Device Network.

You’ll be able to get your hands on the Pixel Buds Pro 2 for $379 from September 26th in four colours: White, Hazel, WinterGreen and Peony. They’ll be available through the Google Store, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Officeworks, Telstra, Optus and Vodafone.

The Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses leverage documentation features and social media sharing. Other smart glasses models like the JBL SoundGear Frames focus on tech like audio, and others provide augmented reality (AR) features for a virtual experience. The Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses allow wearers to enjoy easy, hands-free photo and video-taking. Wearers can also easily share what they’ve captured on Meta’s social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, and even livestream content in real time. Other recent updates have enabled wearers to share their photos and videos on Instagram stories, enhancing its use for social media.

AI capabilities

Aside from documentation and communication, another exciting feature of the Ray-Ban smart glasses is its AI features. The smart glasses are equipped with an AI assistant powered by Meta. Even without pulling out their smartphone, wearers can use voice commands to ask questions, search for information, and even make calls or send texts. Ray-Ban and Meta have also been testing out upgrades to the smart glasses’ AI features. It can offer information based on what the wearer is looking at. For instance, those who were able to sign up for testing could use the AI assistant to identify and learn more about a landmark in the wearer’s field of vision. As AI becomes more refined, the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses may see more AI-focused upgrades that can enhance the experience for wearers.

Ray-Ban and Meta’s new-generation smart glasses are constantly updated to provide the best features for users, making for a tech-forward and future-proof experience that will revolutionise how people use technology, share on social media, and explore AI.

Belkin has released a product that works hand in hand with Apple’s new Vision Pro – it’s a specially-designed holder that can help users keep the device’s external battery safely attached to their body.

The Belkin Battery Holder for Apple Vision Pro allows users to snap the battery securely inside and either clip it to their belt or hang it by the included strap across your shoulder.

This way it is a lot safer to move around with the Vision Pro and eliminate the risk of the external battery falling to the ground and potentially taking the headset with it.

In our review of the Apple Vision Pro we noted the external battery was something a user had to keep an eye on.

It is easy to become immersed in what you’re viewing on the Vision Pro and forget the battery is sitting beside you.

Apple has chosen to connect the battery externally to keep the weight of the headset down.

Belkin’s Battery Holder for Vision Pro has a soft microfibre lining to interior a clip so it can attach to your belt or wear it vertically or horizontally across your body with the adjustable strap that’s made of comfortable flexible material.

The Belkin’s Battery Holder for Vision Pro is available now for $89.95 at Apple Stores and apple.com.au.

GALAXY RING

Galaxy Ring is Samsung’s latest product that can gather health and wellness information in its smallest and most discreet form.

Samsung has brought its proven sensor technology to the lightweight Galaxy Ring which weighs just 3g.

Available in three colour choices, Titanium Black, Titanium Silver and Titanium Gold, Galaxy Ring can be worn around the clock and customised thanks to Galaxy AI.

All the data collected can be found in the Samsung Health app – a single free platform which allows users to monitor their health and fitness patterns and look for ways to improve it.

DJI, a company we know for its amazing drones and cameras, has lent its tech expertise to help launch a new electric mountain bike powered by a new DJI drive system.

The Amflow PL is a new e-bike with the DJI Avinox with 850W of peak power yet still weighing in at an ultralight 19.2kg.

It is a full power eMTB with an ultralight carbon fibre frame that tips the scales at just 2.27kg.

And at the heart of the Amflow PL is the DJI Avinox drive system which combines multiple technologies in both software and hardware design.

The unit has a compound planetary gear set and provides impressive power-to-size ratio with 105Nm torque and a peak power output of 850W.

And all that comes from the DJI drive unit that weighs just 2.52kg.

Inside the unit are high strength polymer gears which can suppress noise during high speed gearbox operation.

There are also several precision sensors on board which, when combined with DJI’s advanced algorithms, offer strong and smooth assistance across a wide range of scenarios and conditions.

The DJI Avinox drive system also includes a special Auto Mode which can adapt the assistance based on the conditions and the riding position.

Once this is activated it allows users to take on a variety of terrain types and gradients without the need to switch modes.

But on challenging trials, Boost Mode can be activated to give the rider 120Nm of torque and 1000W high-power assistance to tackle those steep inclines with ease.

Other modes include Walk Mode with intelligent walk assistance for easy incline travel, Auto Hold to stop rollback on steep inclines and Hill Start Assist to give riders that additional burst of torque to get started on inclines.

The Avinox system’s battery has an ultra-high energy density and weighs 2.87kg.

The included 508W GaN fast charger can charge the battery from 0 to 75 per cent in just 90 minutes.

The Amflow PL’s frame design includes cutting edge geometry for balanced performance and with the agility to help riders take on rugged trails and more technical rides.

The frame is compatible with both 27.5-inch and 29-inch rear wheels and could handle larger and smaller wheels with a simple adjustment of the flip chip so as not to alter the frame’s geometric centre of gravity.

On the suspension side, the rear shocks have a sensitive initial stroke response to filter out any minor vibration and can also prevent bottom outs during continuous high speed impacts or steep descents.

Also onboard is a 2-inch full colour OLED touch screen control display which is integrated into the frame to offer the rider information including real time riding data, estimated range and easy access to the settings.

The bike can also connect to the Avinox app to customise riding modes, set up a password protected anti-theft mode and even access the bike’s real time location.

The Amflow PL electric mountain bike will be available by Q4 2024.

Apple is rumoured to be working on a special 10th anniversary edition of Apple Watch which will feature a larger 2-inch display. This will make it bigger than the Apple Watch Ultra.

The Apple Watch Series 10 could be called Apple Watch X and feature a thinner design yet with a larger 2-inch display.

The latest Apple Watch is expected to be announced alongside the iPhone 16 in mid-September and will go on sale at the end of September.

CAD renders from 91mobiles were sent to Tech Guide and show a larger 2-inch display.

If this is accurate it will make the new Apple Watch X larger than the Apple Watch Ultra (1.93-inch) and the Apple Watch Series 9 (1.7-inch).

Looking at the renders, Apple Watch X/Apple Watch Series 10 will include its usual features – a square display, the digital crown and a side button in the same positions as seen in the previous models.

It’s also rumoured Apple Watch X will possibly include a new band connection system.

Reports suggest it may be a magnetic band attachment that replaces the current slide in system.

The original Apple Watch was unveiled in September 2014 and went on sale in Australia and around the world in April 2015.
